Round 13 was a milestone moment for this historic football club.
This game represented our first ever Senior game at the new world-class home of the Georgies at City Vista. We welcomed it with a win against table topping Sydenham Park SC.
Whilst – as coaches - we have only been at the club a few weeks, it is abundantly clear that the club – made up of members, boards and supporters past and present – have done an amazing job bringing to life this incredible facility that is in keeping with the clubs historic standing. Huge congratulations to all.
The mandate for the new coaching staff is clear. Consolidate and then build. Everything we do from here centers around being the best we can be – on and off the park.
I would like to formally introduce our supporters to the Senior Coaching Staff:
Steve Bebic – former Assistant at the promotion winning Northcote City and Dandenong City. Also held youth development roles at Melbourne Knights. He will be charged with the responsibility of building and delivering a strong football and conditioning program around our key principles.
Theo Mihailidis – was also part of the NPL promotion wining coaching team at Northcote City. He will also be responsible for executing the football program amongst many other things.
We join Georgies legend and record games holder Steve Wardle as our Goalkeeping Coach. I have a long standing relationship with Steve and he is one of the key reasons I was keen to join the club.
As far as the game was concerned, we as a group went in against first placed Sydenham with a key focus. Clean sheet and a result.
The team welcomed Ethan Gage to the starting line up together with youngster Alex Diamond at right back. But, I don’t mean to single players out given the whole squad has been fantastic the last few weeks with their response and attitudes.
Overall, the team performance was full of commitment and discipline. In the end, a one nil win to us was a just result in my view and a great day for our club to celebrate. I believe we had enough opportunities to put the game away, but also did well to hold off a strong last 15 minutes by Sydenham.
The focus for us now is to concentrate and work towards our next game against FC Clifton Hill this weekend. Coached by a good mate of mine, Leigh Tseomerkas (and former Georgies player), they are a team in very good recent form having beaten Altona City, and drawing with leaders Preston and mid table Whittlesea United – all in the last few weeks.
It will be a tough game and one we will not take lightly. We look forward to seeing our supporters and our juniors out there again on Sunday.
Until then, lets continue to show the #GeorgiesCourage.
